What is Froglore?

This is my first public blog post about Froglore, so I am going to give a quick overview of what Froglore is and what the end goals for this project are.

What is Froglore (the setting)?

Froglore is a fantasy setting that I have had bouncing around in the back of my head for several years now. At its simplest, the setting is a large bay populated by frog-people. The world is meant to be bleak, bordering on hopelessness due to the imminent threat of a great evil power and brutal savagery of nature. The people of the world then endure nature and persevere against evil.

The introductory text that scrolls by before the title screen is currently the following:

Seven centuries ago, the world was plunged into darkness. Evil spread across the lands until only one refuge remained, a remote and forgotten bay surrounded by a wall of divine protection. But the gods are weary and their powers are fading. The people of the bay are finally coming face to face with the forces of evil.

Also, the people are frogs.

Frog people.

What is Froglore (the game)?

This Froglore game is being made for the Game Boy Color, the plan is for it to be an open-world role-playing game. I intend to have the core features that should make the game fit the genre, such as a roam-able world, dialogue and quests. The vastness of the open world and the depth of role-playing will of course be limited by the Game Boy Color's hardware (and my own abilities).

Why would I make a game for this system, with its limited specs and development tools? Well, due to extenuating circumstances, I currently only have my laptop and a Game Boy Color for game development. I'm working with what I've got. I have made one small game for the original Game Boy for a game jam many years ago, so I'm not embarking on this project completely blind.

What does the future hold?

This blog will be where I put more substantial updates, keeping technical and non-technical to their own posts. I will post smaller updates on twitter at @FrogloreGames.
